MATH - We are all TACHS prep all the time this week! They have been working on the Ability section of the test which is all about non-verbal reasoning. This topic can be challenging simply because it is so unusual. They are doing quite well with it. They have also been working on overcoming the time constraints of the Exam. We are doing timed tests and working on strategies for choosing the correct answer without needing to overwork the problems. They are working "smarter - not harder" on this. They will play some Math games on Thursday to "relax" and practice their underlying skills like multiplication and pattern recognition.
SCIENCE - They are learning about radioactive decay - what it is and what it is used for. We will then move into how atome create bonds, beginning with Lewis Dot diagrams to visualize ionic bonding.
MATH: Most students handed in their Scientific Notation project, which was due today. They are beautiful!! We are now studying roots and then moving into rational and irrational numbers.
Next week I will spend time practicing the Ability - type questions for the TACHS Exam. They will fold and punch holes in paper so that they are better able to visualize the exam questions. I will also be doing estimating and other "drills" to help them answer questions quickly. The TACHS is a timed test and many students struggle not with the Math - but with the time. So we will work on that.
SCIENCE: We are currently learning about the periodic Table of Elements, which I think is an amazing piece of poetry! There will be a quick Element project assigned in the next few days. We will do a lab on isotopes and atomic mass on Thursday.
