The Sacred Heart School library is located on the second floor of the school building close by the lower school classrooms. Students in grades PK through 4 participate in weekly formal library classes. A love of reading is promoted through fun and informative read-alouds. An effort is made to include classic children’s literature in the curriculum and to introduce new authors and books. Students also learn library skills they will need to conduct research as they move on to the upper grades.
Students in all grades, PK through 8, learn about the availability of both print and digital books through their local public library and through other free applications including Epic! and Sora, an Overdrive application for students using school google account credentials. Links to these highly recommended sites can be found in the "Library Links to Love" list to the left.
All students are encouraged to have a library card from their local public library. Library cards are free and can be obtained by visiting your local library. Students can also obtain a library card from the Greenburgh Public Library because Sacred Heart is located in Greenburgh. Information about public library cards can be found at the Greenburgh library website. https://greenburghlibrary.org/welcome/librarycard
Students in grades K through 8 have a formal, weekly computer class. The SHS computer lab has over 20 individual desktop computer stations, allowing all students to participate fully in class activities. Students in grades K through 8 also have chromebooks which can be used in the computer lab and in the classroom. Over the course of the school year, students participate in lessons involving a variety of computer skills and programs including keyboarding, coding, cybersafety, digital citizenship, library databases, online research, Google Suite (drawing, documents, slides, spreadsheets, forms, etc.).
