Hi Everyone! I hope you all have a good last week of school! For classes today, I am asking that you go on to the website "MusicTechTeacher.com" that I use in class sometimes. On this site there are many fun and different types of exercises and games, like the Concentration Game we use sometimes in class. You can look around the Games section and find something you you would like to try. Some of them are more for individual lessons than using it with the entire class, so explore this website a bit and find something that looks interesting to you for this last class! I hope you all have a great summer and hope that we will all be together again in September! Enjoy your summer and stay safe!
Mr. Mange
Hi Everyone! I hope you are all well! I will be having a Zoom class with 5th grade at 9AM. Please make sure to be logged in for the beginning of class at 9AM. Please have the 2 pages that I attached for today's class about the musicals ready for class so we can look at them together.
For Grades PK through 2, if you could work on the coloring paper with the three musical instruments on it. Can you name these three instruments?
For grades 3 through 8, as a continuation of our topic of musicals, I have attched two worksheets on 2 different musicals. One of them is about the show "The Phantom of the Opera" and the second page is on another musical called "The King and I." Please read the short story for both and fill in the questions on both pages, using the story to answer your questions. I hope you are all having a good week!
Mr. Mange
Hi Everyone! Happy June! I hope all of you are well! For thi week's classes, I will be having the 1st and 2nd grade classes on Zoom at 10:30AM. I will be having Music Class with 3rd grade at 1:30PM. Please make sure that you are waiting for the class to begin.
Grades PK & K - Please find the attached Link for a Sing Along Video to sing along with and learn some new songs. You can end it when the half hour class is over, it is longer than our class time.
Grades 4 through 8 - If you could go to the site http://www.musictechteacher.com/music_quizzes/quiz_concentration_instruments_2012/quiz_instrument_concentration_2012.htm
It is the Instrument game we use in class. If you can not open it this way, type in "Music Tech Teacher" in the browser and go to Quizzes/games. Scroll down and look for the one in the left column that says "Instrument Concentration." Your computer must allow Adobe Flash Player to open the game. If you have brothers or sisters at home, maybe you could play the game with them? I hope everyone is having a good week! Hope to see you all soon! Mr. Mange
Hi Everyone! I hope you all had a good Memorial Day weekend! For this week's assignments:
Grades PK through 2: Please find attached a worksheet (May 27). It is a picture of a marching band playing differnt instruments, much like we would usually see around Memorial Day which we just celebrated. Can you name the instruments you see? What are some other musicl instruments you might see in a marching band? What are some that you would not see? A band is a group of people marching together wearing some type of uniform, much like our school uniforms that let us know what group we are with. Please color the picture, making the musician's uniforms the same. Maybe pick three colors to use for the uniforms. Can you practice drawing some more music notes above them? Use the ones in the picture as a help!
Grades 6 & 7: I will be having a Zoom class with each of your grades. Please make sure that you have begun watching the assignment from last week of "Alladin" and answering some of the questions I asked from last week. (refer to May 20th class assignment) Also, please make sure that you have the assignment ready from the previous week comparing a play, an opera and a musical along with the names of some Broadway musicals. Kindly make sure that you are waiting online for the class to begin. Any rules regarding online classes your teacher has set up with you should be observed in my class as well.
Grades 3,4,5,8: For this week's class, I would like you to continue/ finish watching the attached link of "Alladin" on stage. (refer to May 20th class assignment) It was longer than our normal class time so would like you to make sure you have seen the entire thing and have answered the questions I asked about the show. Grade 5 should begin watching it since we had Zoom class last week.
Thanks so much and I hope all of you and your families are doing well:) Mr. Mange
Hi Everyone! I hope that all of you are doing well and are enjoying the nice weather! For this week's assignments:
Grades PK through 2: Please find attached a "sing along" video with songs that you all know and can practice your singing voices with! Please watch the video, and if there is a song that you don't know, you can skip it or try to learn it, they are simple to learn! The video is a bit longer than our regular music class, so you can skip a few songs that you might not know! Have fun singing along and you can move around and do the motions along with the songs!
Grade 5: I will be having a Zoom class with you at 1PM, please be ready with last week's comparisons of a play, opera and a musical, as well as a list of some Broadway shows.
Grades 3,4,6,7,8: One of the popular Disney shows that is now a Braodway musical is the show "Aladdin." We are used to seeing it as a cartoon, and it was recently made into a movie. I attached a version of the show which is acted out on the stage. It was filmed with an audience of school children who are involved a bit in the show. It has been shortened slightly from the full story, but I would like you to watch it paying attention to how the scenery, curtains and special effects are an important part of telling the story on stage. Also notice how the characters rely on some of the reaction from the audience, and how sometimes they wait for the audience's participation before continuing on with the show. It is a show that I am sure we all familiar with, but I would like you to see how it is performed on stage. Even though you don't see them, there is an orchestra playing all the music live. Usually they are in front of the stage or actually below the stage! Everything is done live at every performance, all of the music as well as all of the singing! This attachment runs about 45 minutes, if you want to split the time between this week's and next week's class, that is fine. Notice how they handle the "problem" of having a bird (Iago) and a flying carpet in the story and how they make these characters part of the musical on the stage.
Hi Everyone! I hope you are all well and are enjoying this time with your families! For this week's assignments:
Grades PK through 2: For this week's lesson, I want you to practice your singing voices! I miss singing our songs and singing with all of you, especially our younger classes! I would like you to think of a list of 10 songs that you know from school or other places. We have sung lots of songs together in school and in Church! There are lots of songs that we learned that have hand motions that go with them. You can teach your parents some of the songs we learned! You can tell the names of the songs to your parents and have them write them down for you if you need help! What is your favorite song and why? Maybe you can have a little "concert" for your family and you can sing some of your songs. If you have brothers and sisters at home, maybe you can include them too and even sing some songs together!
Grades 3 through 8: Last week we learned about different types of music, operas and operettas. There is another form of music that is important for us since we live in New York and that is a "musical." They are often referred to as "Broadway musicals." Do you know why? What would a mucial be called that is NOT on Braodway? Musicals can stay in a theater for as long as they want, but it all depends on how many people attend each performance! Once a certain nunbers of seats are not sold at a show, the musical will soon close and the theater will be fitted to have another show take it's place! For this week's assignment, I would like you to compare a PLAY, an OPERA and a MUSICAL. How are they similar and how are they different? Please tell me 5 ways they are each similar and 5 ways they are each different from one another. Then I would like you to try to name as many Brodway musicals that you can think of. You may use the computer after you run out of ideas! Please name at least 10. Can you tell me what the longest running Broadway show is? It is still on Broadway today!
Hi Everyone! I hope you and your families are all doing well. Happy May! Please find attached the worksheets I would like the students to work on for class today.
Grades PK through 2. This worksheet shows us different examples of music notes. All music notes are round, however did you know that when music was first written down on paper, they were originally sqaures?! Can you think of a reason why there are different kinds of music notes? What is different about each note? What if there were only one kind of note? Every song would sound very boring because every note in the song would be held for the same amount of time! Try singing one of your favorite songs but hold every note for the same amount of time. It sounds very dull and not interesting at all! That's why we have different kinds of notes, because each note tells us how long to hold it for!
Have fun and color each box with the notes in them. Color each of the animals as well! Which note is on the page two times? There are only 7 different kinds of notes. Every song is made up of only these 7 notes!
Grades 3 through 8. Please find attached a worksheet on a different style of music - opera! What do you think of when you hear the word "opera"? How is it similar to a play, and how is it different? Please carefully read through the worksheet, underlining anything you think is important. You will see that an opera is not something that was created here in the United States. A different form of it was, and it is called an "operetta." It is usually shorter in length and has a happier story line! After you have finished reading the story, please complete the "fill-in" section at the bottom. Afterwards, only for grades 4 through 8 - can you find the names of 5 operas on the computer?
Thanks so much and I hope you have a good week! Mr. Mange
